“Bahina Dooj” or Sisterhood Celebrations! Jashan Bahinchaare ka
Since 2016, the Organization of Strong Women Alone has been celebrating the Sisterhood of single women, and arranging programmes to greet and meet their single women sisters. The single women of the Organization realized that Indian society has special days in which sisters honour their brothers – the festival of “Rakhee”, and “Bhai Dooj” (just after the festival of Diwali). But there were no special days on which Sisters honour their Sisters! And so they created “Bahina Dooj” or “Sisters’ Day”, usually within the 10 - 14 days after the festival of Diwali.
In the initial years – 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Bahina Dooj was held in the capital city of one of the Districts of Rajasthan, and each year, from all over the state, between 200 and 300 or more single women came. But the onset of Covid, and the lockdowns and the shutting down of public transport, forced the cancellation of Bahina Dooj in 2020. From 2021 onwards, the Bahina Dooj programmes were organized and celebrated at the Gram Panchayat levels, all over the state! With work of the Organization going on actively in more than 500 Gram Panchayats in Rajasthan, the number of single women participating in the Bahina Dooj programmes increased – with a total of several thousand single women gathering to celebrate! De-centralized Bahina Dooj will continue for years to come!
