The date: November 5, 2019 – the place: Jaipur, Rajasthan – Celebrating 20 years since the founding convention of the Organization of Strong Women Alone! Twenty years earlier, in November 1999 in the town of Bassi, District Rajasthan, 450 Widows came together in a Rajasthan Widow Convention, to talk about what it means to be a low-income widow and to decide to help each other solve their problems, collectively! Twenty years later, over 500 Single Women came together to celebrate an organization that has transformed the lives of hundreds and thousands of Single Women in the state of Rajasthan!

We also celebrated Bahina Dooj that day, tying threads on each other’s wrists, singing songs of strength and solidarity, listening to important Chief Guests encourage us to “keep up the good work” – sharing sweets, and hugging our “sisters”! It was an important day in the unfolding story of an organization formed, managed and run by Single Women. Much had been achieved in 20 years, and as we move forward – we still have much to do!
